In 2016-2017:

61.8% of DCSS elementary school students were beginning or developing learners in math. That means that only 32.8% of our elementary students were prepared for the next level.

63.7 % of DCSS middle school students were beginning or developing learners in math. That means that only 36.2% of our middle school students were prepared for the next level.

74.7% of DCSS high school students were beginning or developing learners in Algebra 1. That means that only 25.2% of our high school students were prepared for the next level, or college/career ready.
The results are similar for other subjects.

These test results clearly show that ALL of our students are not being prepared to move on. This data should alarm any parent, or community member. These results point out that we must do more to educate all of our students.

The grades given to the district and to individual schools are clearly below average. We must aspire to do better. Being mediocre is NOT acceptable. Most parents would not accept a report card with these grades.

In a State that ranks 37th in education, Douglas County is below the state average. This has been true going back to at least the 2010-2011 school year. (Source - Governors Office of Student Achievement, K-12 Public Schools, Report Card, National Tests.)
We must demand better. Our students are not being prepared to compete with students across the state or across the nation. We need board members who know how to ask the right questions and how to examine data in order to help the superintendent move this system from a "C" to an "A."
